Why We Believe Flooring Should Be Personal
Our Story · August 2026
We're not the biggest flooring company in Essex, and we don't want to be. Here's why family culture, relationships and quality over quantity matter more to us than growing fast.
We believe flooring works best when it's personal. Our family culture runs through everything we do, from how we treat our staff to how we support our customers. We value relationships and quality over quantity, and that's not just something nice to say: it shapes every decision we make, from the brands we choose to stock to how we answer the phone.
It starts with where we came from. Tyrone and Bernadette built this business from the ground up as T&B Carpets, and over 43 years it's never stopped being a family business, even as we've grown into Manningtree Tiles & Flooring and taken on a wider range and a bigger showroom. The name above the door has changed; the way we work hasn't.
That culture runs inward as much as outward. Our fitters aren't sub-contracted out to the lowest bidder. They're people we know, who know our customers, and who take the same pride in a job as we do. When you deal with us, you're not passed between departments or call centres. You're dealing with the same family, start to finish.
It shows in how we sell, too, or rather, how we don't. There's no pressure, no sales patter, no upselling you into something you didn't come in for. Just honest advice from people who'll tell you what will actually work in your home, even if that means recommending something cheaper.
We could chase volume: take on more jobs, cut corners on advice, treat customers as numbers. We'd rather stay the size we are and get it right. Quality over quantity isn't a slogan here, it's the whole reason the business has lasted 43 years. If that sounds like the kind of company you'd rather deal with, come and say hello at the showroom.
