How to Look After Your New Floor: Care & Maintenance Tips

Care & Maintenance · July 2026

You've had it fitted. Now keep it looking that way. Simple, practical care advice for carpet, wood, LVT and vinyl flooring.

A new floor is an investment, and a little routine care goes a long way toward keeping it looking as good as the day it was fitted.

Carpets: vacuum at least once a week, and more in high-traffic areas. Deal with spills immediately (blot, don't rub) and have carpets professionally cleaned every 12–18 months to lift out deep-down dirt vacuuming can't reach.

Wood flooring: sweep or vacuum regularly to stop grit scratching the surface, and use a barely-damp mop rather than a wet one. Standing water is wood flooring's biggest enemy. Felt pads under furniture legs prevent dents and scuffs.

LVT and vinyl: these are the lowest-maintenance floors we sell. A regular sweep and an occasional mop with a manufacturer-approved cleaner is usually all that's needed. Avoid steam cleaners, which can affect the adhesive over time.

Across all flooring types, doormats at entrances make a bigger difference than people expect: most of the grit that wears down and dulls a floor comes in on shoes.
